Your Questions About Vacuum Sealers

Lisa asks…

Can dogs smell meat inside a vacuum food sealer?

vacuumbagsealers.org answers:

I would think so. Have ever seen a drug/explosives dog at work. It's amazing what they can sniff out.

Joseph asks…

Best foodsaver vacuum sealer?

vacuumbagsealers.org answers:

The one with the most features. If you intend to use the vacuum sealer a lot don’t skimp, you'll be sorry later. Go with the Food Saver Brand, the Rival Brand isn’t as good. Things to look for; get one that does canisters, preferably with a canister button, look for a separate "Seal" button, to do potato chips and such, and look for different controls to do different things, like controls to deal with damp food (like raw meat) and to soft seal things (like bread) and look for a feature that allows you to stop vacuum and seal the bag at any time, it’s great. Last but not least look for one that you seal with out having to press and hold down the lid on, that alone is worth the upgrade. Last get the Food Saver brand bags; cheap bags don’t hold their seal for long. Internal bag storage and cutting is also a very nice thing to have. We spent about $140 on ours about a year ago, and we use it all the time.

John asks…

How long will a bundle of small branches stay fresh if VACUUM SEALED????

in a vacuum sealer machine without being frozen; just kept in refrigerator

vacuumbagsealers.org answers:

As long as it is in a vaccum seal it should stay fresh for while. I would say about a week, maybe 2 becuase after a while the water will start to come out( very little like a bit of steam).

Sharon asks…

what is a good brand of vacuum sealer that can also seal liquids.?

vacuumbagsealers.org answers:

I use the FoodSaver, available from Wal-Mart and ShopCo. An optional extra are devices that will seal standard and wide mouth canning jars. I think there may also be one to reseal soda bottles also, but I've never used it. I do use the canning jar sealers a lot, tho. I pack leftovers into canning jars, seal them and put them into the frig rather than freezing them. They last for a week easy, and it doesn't make any difference how wet the food is. Don C

Lizzie asks…

what is the best brand of vacuum sealer?

vacuumbagsealers.org answers:

A brand that is easy enough to use and which utilizes replacement bags which you can readily replace I would think. I have seen from time to time a jar that goes with the jar-type sealers in Goodwill. Not a whole lot at a time – usually one. It makes me wonder how good those are. I saw them demonstrated at Costco a few years back. My niece has a commercial one to package their cheeses for their dairy and it seems as easy to use as a copy machine. Of course, the cheese is relatively hard and has a form. Actually one of our sons bought us one for Christmas about 6 years ago. We have never used it. I remember taking it out of the box and reading the instructions and thinking, "Do I really want to go through all that trouble messing with the bags and all."
